How can we research on the creative arts in a way that is not merely descriptive but produces new and sharable academic knowledge?
In this masterclass, artist-researcher Angela Viora will:
Illustrate some of the main challenges of undertaking scholarly research when it comes to art production and reception (performances, paintings, sculptures, and art exhibition);
Present some of the key theories and methodologies employed to overcome these challenges, which situate in the PaR tradition (“practice-as-research”);
Discuss the “practices-led” methodology developed during her PhD in Theatre & Performance (2019), understanding the theoretical and the creative practice according to principles of equality, mutuality, and processuality. This model acknowledges the differences between theory-based and art-based practice as well as their equal importance in influencing each other and actively collaborating to undertake research and pursue reconfigured knowledge.
Alongside the more theoretical component, the masterclass will offer opportunities for group activities and collective discussions to help you apply the masterclass’ contents to your work and research.
There are limited numbers of stipends for people who need financial support in order to attend the masterclass. To apply for a stipend, please email us.
